Important Socio-Religious Reformers
Swami Sahajanand (1781–1830)
- Original name: Gyanshyam.
- Belonged to Gujarat.
Contribution
- Founded the Swaminarayan Sect.
- Advocated belief in one God.
- Prescribed a moral code of conduct for followers.
Raja Rammohan Roy (1772–1833)
- Established Atmiya Sabha in 1815.
- Founded Brahmo Sabha in 1828, later known as Brahmo Samaj.
Reform Initiatives
- Campaigned against social evils in Hindu society.
- Led the movement for the abolition of Sati.
- Published the journal Sambad Kaumudi (1819) to spread reformist ideas.
Debendranath Tagore (1817–1905)
- Assumed leadership of the Brahmo Samaj after Raja Rammohan Roy.
Contribution
- Founded Tattwabodhini Sabha in 1839.
- Published Tattwabodhini Patrika to promote Brahmo principles.
- In 1859, merged Tattwabodhini Sabha with the Brahmo Samaj.
- Compiled selected Upanishadic teachings into Brahma Dharma.
Keshab Chandra Sen (1838–1884)
- Became the principal leader of the Brahmo Samaj after Debendranath Tagore.
Reform Measures
- Published Bamabodhini Patrika for women’s education and awareness.

Organisations
- His faction became known as Adi Brahmo Samaj.
