Objective of The Assam Tea Garden Workers’ Financial Assistance Scheme
To provide direct financial support to tea garden workers in Assam as a welfare gesture and to commemorate 200 years of Assam’s tea industry.
Fulfills a promise made in the state budget for 2025–26.
Features of The Assam Tea Garden Workers’ Financial Assistance Scheme
One-time direct financial assistance of ₹5,000 per eligible tea garden worker.
The scheme targets approximately 7 lakh tea garden workers across Assam.
Total budget allocation: ₹342 crore earmarked for the scheme in 2025–26.
Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): Amount will be transferred directly to the verified bank accounts of eligible workers.
Verification process:
Must be a permanent resident of Assam
Must be currently employed as a tea garden worker
Must have a bank account linked with Aadhaar.
Implementation: Involves form submission, digital uploading, and direct payment after verification.
Beneficiaries of The Assam Tea Garden Workers’ Financial Assistance Scheme
All eligible tea garden workers in Assam, estimated at 7 lakh individuals.
Includes workers who are permanent residents, currently employed in tea gardens, and possess Aadhaar-linked bank accounts
